Great bread!

Love this bread. So fresh and the crust is perfect. Just wish we could get it sliced but since we have to bake it first, that’s why we don’t have that option. Will continue to buy.

German Country Bread

My mother was German. I visited Oma and Opa many times as a child. Our stays lasted weeks. I remember having to bring school books in my suitcase so Mom could keep me "on schedule" with my classmates. I remember Oma sneaking me chocolates when Mom wasn't looking. I remember Oma's spätzle. Opa was a retired Bäckermeister. Needless to say, I was quite spoiled with delicious German breads and rolls. I loved having a thick slice with sweet butter and jam, for breakfast.I was hooked on sourdough rye, with a dense crumb and a lovely crust. Later, as an adult, I spent five years in Germany during part of my military service. I don't think I had one slice of store-bought American white bread from the commissary or in the chow hall the entire time I was there. I got my bread off-post from neighborhood bakeries. Anyway, this little walk down memory lane was for a reason: to help explain why I am so picky about bread. Where I live now in Illinois, good, authentic German breads are difficult to come by. I would need to travel close to 100 miles, or mail order. I decided to give Bread Village a try. I was not disappointed. Good quality and oh so tasty. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My tummy thanks you, too. Yum!
